After 52 consecutive years of releasing Monte Bello en primeur, Ridge has announced that from the 2026 vintage onwards its flagship wine will return to a traditional in-bottle release schedule. As a result, Ridge Monte Bello 2025 is the last ever Monte Bello offered En Primeur, making it one of the most collectible vintages in the estate's modern history.
With no subsequent new-release Monte Bello expected until March 2029, this vintage represents a unique opportunity for collectors and investors seeking long-term cellar-worthy California Cabernet blends.
Ridge Monte Bello 2025 Vintage Overview
The 2025 growing season delivered precisely the conditions that have historically produced the most age-worthy and classically styled Monte Bello vintages.
Abundant winter rainfall replenished groundwater reserves and ensured healthy vine development throughout the season. Cool spring temperatures delayed budbreak until April, while moderate summer conditions prevented excessive sugar accumulation and preserved freshness in the fruit.
Unlike many recent warmer vintages, temperatures during July rarely exceeded 27°C, leading to a notably extended growing season. A carefully managed green harvest at veraison reduced yields and enhanced concentration across the vineyard.
The harvest stretched from early September through to 4 November, allowing the Ridge team to pick individual vineyard blocks at optimal maturity. This slow and measured ripening period resulted in exceptional balance between fruit intensity, acidity, tannin structure, and alcohol levels.
The defining characteristic of the 2025 vintage is harmony. Every component appears perfectly integrated, producing a wine that combines power with elegance and structure with remarkable precision.
Ridge Monte Bello 2025 Blend
Final Assemblage: Following extensive blind tastings across ninety individual lots, Ridge selected the finest parcels to create the final Monte Bello blend.
Blend Composition:
• 75% Cabernet Sauvignon
• 18% Merlot
• 7% Cabernet Franc
A key contributor to the final wine was the prestigious Foster's Terrace block from Torre Ranch, which added additional complexity, depth, and structure to the blend.
The resulting wine displays everything collectors expect from a great Monte Bello: concentration, layered aromatics, refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and extraordinary ageing potential.
Tasting Notes – Ridge Monte Bello 2025
Deep ruby-purple in colour, Ridge Monte Bello 2025 opens with complex aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, graphite, cedar, crushed herbs, and subtle floral notes. The palate is remarkably poised, delivering concentrated dark fruit layered with tobacco leaf, pencil shavings, cocoa, and mineral nuances.
The cool growing season is evident in the wine's freshness and precision. Fine-grained tannins provide structure without heaviness, while bright natural acidity carries the finish for over a minute. Elegant yet powerful, this is a classic Monte Bello that recalls some of the estate's most celebrated long-lived vintages.
