“The product of a vintage that has proven to be high calibre and deeply satisfying, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2021 allows the tannin qualities and balanced concentration to shine through. The wine displays a bright ruby red with the usual purple highlights in the glass. Refreshing on the nose with pink pepper and cypress berries aromas, which are reminiscent of the Mediterranean shrub. 2021 Vintage Growing Season
The growing season began with a mild, rainy winter, replenishing soil moisture. A dry March was followed by steady temperatures and ideal spring rains, setting the stage for even budbreak and healthy flowering. A warm, dry summer led to small, concentrated grapes with excellent aging potential. September’s sunny, rain-free days enabled precision harvesting, timed perfectly to extract the best from each grape variety and parcel.
Vinification & Aging Process
All grapes are hand-harvested in small 15 kg baskets. They undergo meticulous hand and optical sorting before gentle pressing. Fermentation occurs separately for each variety and parcel in stainless steel and concrete vats at controlled temperatures (22–28°C) for two weeks, followed by 10–15 days of maceration. After malolactic fermentation in steel, the wine matures in French oak barriques (25% new, 75% once-used) for 15 months, first aged for 12 months, then blended and returned for an additional 3 months. After bottling, the wine is cellared for 6 more months before release.
