Vintage 2020

Experience the exceptional quality of the Glaetzer Wallace 2020 Shiraz Grenache blend, crafted from old vine fruit sourced exclusively from the renowned Ebenezer sub-district in the northern Barossa Valley. This vintage features grapes from 50 to 100-year-old vines, delivering a unique depth and complexity you will not find elsewhere. With yields of only 3.5 tonnes per hectare, this wine exemplifies the rarity and concentration of Barossa Valley old vine wines.
Vintage
The 2020 vintage was shaped by extreme weather conditions, including the driest year on record in 2019 and frost during the flowering stage in October, resulting in reduced crop sizes. However, a cooler summer brought smaller berries and clusters, intensifying flavours and structure. This limited yield vintage stands out for its bold character, with Shiraz showing extraordinary colour and flavour depth.
Vinification& Ageing
The Grenache component was carefully handled to preserve its lively, fresh fruit character, with minimal oak contact to maintain purity. Meanwhile, the Shiraz was matured for 16 months in a combination of 2–3 year-old French and American oak hogsheads (80% French oak, 20% American oak), enhancing its rich spice and complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Tasting Notes
A vibrant dark red wine with an aromatic bouquet of red fruits, fresh black pepper, and cedar spice. Enjoy bright damson plum and red cherry flavours, balanced by a subtle white pepper note typical of Grenache, layered with the depth and intensity of mature Shiraz fruit. This is a refreshing yet powerful red wine perfect for collectors and enthusiasts seeking authentic old vine Barossa Valley wines.
Glaetzer Wines is a boutique, family-owned winery in Australia’s Barossa Valley, renowned for producing premium old vine Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Established in 1995, the winery continues a winemaking legacy that dates back to the late 1800s, when the Glaetzer family emigrated from Germany and became some of the first viticulturalists in both the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley.
Today, Glaetzer Wines is led by award-winning winemaker Ben Glaetzer, whose philosophy blends traditional techniques with modern precision. All fruit is hand-selected from the Ebenezer sub-region in the northern Barossa, a site famous for its dry-grown, non-grafted bush vines aged between 80 and 110 years. These ancient vines produce low yields of intensely flavoured grapes, forming the backbone of Glaetzer’s bold and expressive wines.
In the cellar, Ben practices minimal intervention winemaking, allowing the unique terroir of Barossa to shine through. Every wine is crafted in small batches to maintain quality and site expression.
Glaetzer's flagship wines, including the iconic Amon-Ra Shiraz and the Anaperenna Shiraz Cabernet blend, have gained global recognition for their depth, balance, and unmistakable Barossa character. Whether you are a collector or a connoisseur, Glaetzer Wines offers some of the best premium red wines from Australia.
