Discover the Glaetzer Wallace 2021, a premium Barossa Valley Shiraz Grenache red wine crafted from exceptional old vine fruit grown in the renowned Ebenezer sub-region. Featuring 50–80 year-old Shiraz vines and Grenache vines aged up to 100 years, this vintage showcases the deep-rooted heritage and bold character of the Barossa.
Vineyard & Vintage
Grapes are hand-selected from low-yielding old vines in the northern tip of the Barossa Valley. The 2021 vintage was shaped by ideal growing conditions, cooler temperatures, good spring rainfall, and a long, dry extended summer. These factors led to higher yields and outstanding fruit quality, with excellent ripeness and complexity.
Vinification & Ageing
To preserve the vibrant character of the old vine Barossa Grenache, oak contact was kept to a minimum. The Shiraz component was matured for 16 months in seasoned oak hogsheads (80% French, 20% American), bringing subtle structure and texture without overshadowing the fruit.
Tasting Notes
• Colour: Medium to deep garnet with a hint of purple at the rim.
• Aroma: Intense notes of dark plum, raspberry, lavender, and a whisper of anise and cracked pepper.
• Palate: Juicy black fruits, blackcurrant, and spice on a frame of firm yet rounded tannins.
This is a classic expression of Barossa Shiraz Grenache perfect for collectors, dinner parties, or gifting lovers of structured, aromatic Australian reds.
Glaetzer Wines is a boutique, family-owned winery in Australia’s Barossa Valley, renowned for producing premium old vine Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Established in 1995, the winery continues a winemaking legacy that dates back to the late 1800s, when the Glaetzer family emigrated from Germany and became some of the first viticulturalists in both the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley.
Today, Glaetzer Wines is led by award-winning winemaker Ben Glaetzer, whose philosophy blends traditional techniques with modern precision. All fruit is hand-selected from the Ebenezer sub-region in the northern Barossa, a site famous for its dry-grown, non-grafted bush vines aged between 80 and 110 years. These ancient vines produce low yields of intensely flavoured grapes, forming the backbone of Glaetzer’s bold and expressive wines.
In the cellar, Ben practices minimal intervention winemaking, allowing the unique terroir of Barossa to shine through. Every wine is crafted in small batches to maintain quality and site expression.
Glaetzer's flagship wines, including the iconic Amon-Ra Shiraz and the Anaperenna Shiraz Cabernet blend, have gained global recognition for their depth, balance, and unmistakable Barossa character. Whether you are a collector or a connoisseur, Glaetzer Wines offers some of the best premium red wines from Australia.
