Adrianna Vineyard River Stones Malbec 2021, Premium Argentine Wine from Uco Valley's Ancient Riverbed Soils
Discover the exquisite Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard River Stones Malbec 2021, a luxurious Argentine red wine crafted from 100% Malbec grapes grown in the unique stony soils of the Adrianna Vineyard. Located in the prestigious Gualtallary District of the Tupungato Alto region in Mendoza’s renowned Uco Valley, this Malbec showcases the distinct character imparted by an ancient riverbed covered with oval white stones, delivering unparalleled aroma and richness.
This premium River Stones Malbec is sourced from a small, carefully selected 2.6-hectare parcel known as “River,” characterized by its exceptional drainage and mineral-rich alluvial soil composed of white stones coated in calcium carbonate. These stones moderate temperature fluctuations, absorbing heat during the day and cooling rapidly at night, contributing to the wine’s balanced profile.
Enjoy intense floral aromas, exuberant fruit notes, and lengthy smooth tannins with subtle metallic undertones. This wine boasts a luxurious texture and can be enjoyed young or cellared for decades, perfect for Malbec lovers seeking a rich, aromatic wine from the Uco Valley terroir.
Winemaking Process:
• Extensive cold maceration (50% whole cluster) for 5-10 days at under 10°C to enhance aromatic extraction.
• Fermentation lasting 12-22 days with total maceration of 10-15 days.
• Aged 18-21 months in French oak barrels (1 and 2-year-old) to develop complexity.
• Fermentation with wild yeasts in 500-litre foudres barrels.

A Legacy of Excellence from Mendoza, Argentina
Founded in 1902 by Italian immigrant Nicola Catena, the Catena Zapata winery has remained family-owned for over four generations. As one of the few major Argentine wine producers still in Argentine hands, the Catena family has played a key role in shaping the future of winemaking in South America.
In the 1980s, Dr. Nicolás Catena Zapata transformed the industry by pioneering high-altitude vineyards in the Andes foothills of Mendoza. His groundbreaking work, especially with Malbec, put Argentine wines on the global map. By the mid-1990s, his daughter, Dr. Laura Catena, joined the mission, continuing the family’s tradition of innovation and excellence.
Today, Catena Zapata holds more 100-point wine ratings than any other winery in South America and is globally recognised for quality and sustainability. Certified by Bodegas de Argentina, the winery also leads in research on terroir, soil, and historic grape clones.
