Discover the elegance of Yarra Yering Dry Red No.1 2020, a premium Australian red wine crafted from hand harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. First planted in 1969, these historic Yarra Valley vineyards produce wines of exceptional character and longevity.
Each berry is carefully sorted, fermented in small batches, and matured for 15 months in French oak barrels (40% new). This meticulous vinification process creates a wine with complex layers of summer berry fruits, bay leaf herbal notes, subtle spice, and balanced oak influence.
The cool 2020 vintage delivers bright acidity, refined tannins, and a savoury edge that ensures cellaring potential. Perfect for collectors or those seeking a luxury Australian Cabernet blend with depth, fragrance, and long ageing potential.
The Yarra Valley wine industry flourished in the 1800s, but by the 1920s many vineyards gave way to sheep farming. It was the vision of Dr Bailey Carrodus, a plant physiologist and Roseworthy winemaking graduate, who revived the region as one of Australia’s most celebrated wine destinations.
In 1969, Dr Carrodus purchased land at the foot of the Warramate Hills and, by 1973, released the first vintages of his now iconic Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No.1 and Dry Red Wine No.2. These wines quickly became benchmarks for premium Australian red blends, admired for their elegance and sophistication.
Dr Carrodus crafted Yarra Yering wines until his passing in 2008, when the estate was acquired by long time admirers Ed Peter and Reid Bosward. Today, the winery continues his legacy under the guidance of Sarah Crowe, named Winemaker of the Year in 2017 by James Halliday, ensuring Yarra Yering remains synonymous with luxury Yarra Valley wines.
