Discover the exceptional Guidalberto 2020 Super Tuscan red wine, crafted from vineyards nestled in diverse soils rich in limestone, marl, pebbles, and clay. Located at 100 to 300 meters elevation with south/south-west exposure, these terroirs deliver grapes with a unique mineral complexity, perfect for premium Tuscan wine lovers.
Soil and Terroir
Our Guidalberto grapes thrive in limestone-rich vineyard soils mixed with marl and clay, providing balanced drainage and nutrients. This diverse terrain, combined with ideal sun exposure and altitude, supports the optimal ripening of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, creating a complex flavour profile unique to Tuscany.
Vintage Weather Conditions
The 2020 vintage experienced a warm growing season with intermittent rainfall and temperature fluctuations. A hot summer accelerated grape ripening, while August storms prevented vine stress, leading to an early and carefully timed harvest. These ideal weather trends enhanced grape maturity and ensured a rich, balanced Super Tuscan wine.
Hand Harvesting and Winemaking
All grapes are handpicked, starting with Merlot at late August, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon in September. Grapes are meticulously sorted by hand and in the winery for quality. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats (27-29°C) with natural yeasts, and gentle maceration lasting 12-16 days enhances aromatic extraction and softens tannins.
Malolactic fermentation completes in steel vats before the wine ages for 15 months in a blend of French (80%) and American oak (20%) barriques. The ageing process utilizes 40% new oak, balancing wood influence with the wine’s vibrant fruit character.
Tasting Notes
This Guidalberto Tuscan red wine delights with ripe plum, strawberry, and blackcurrant aromas layered with sweet spice and forest floor hints. On the palate, it is juicy and supple, with fine tannins and refreshing acidity, perfect for lovers of rich, elegant Super Tuscan blends. Ideal for drinking through 2030.
Discover Tenuta San Guido – Legendary Super Tuscan Wines from Bolgheri, Tuscany
Tenuta San Guido is an iconic Italian wine estate located in the prestigious Bolgheri DOC region of Tuscany. Best known for producing Sassicaia, one of the original and most celebrated Super Tuscan wines, this historic estate has set the global benchmark for Bordeaux-style red wines from Italy.
Founded by Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, Tenuta San Guido introduced Sassicaia in 1948, originally made from Cabernet Sauvignon cuttings and crafted exclusively for private family consumption. In 1968, Sassicaia made its commercial debut, quickly gaining international acclaim. It later became the first and only wine in Italy to be awarded its own appellation: Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC.
