Experience the vibrant freshness of Quinta de Azevedo Vinho Verde Loureiro/Alvarinho 2024, a premium white wine from Portugal’s renowned Vinho Verde region. Crafted from a careful blend of Loureiro and Alvarinho grapes, this vintage is a true expression of Portuguese terroir.
The grapes are sourced from sustainable vineyards planted on schist and granite soils, including the estate-grown fruit at Quinta de Azevedo. Using modern cordon-trained vine systems, the vineyard maximizes grape exposure and airflow, resulting in riper, healthier fruit with a balanced profile. Sustainable practices, including cover cropping for biodiversity and soil health, further enhance the wine’s integrity.
2024 Vintage Highlights
A standout year, 2024 delivered exceptional growing conditions. Increased rainfall and a warm spring contributed to healthy canopies and extended ripening. Cool spells in May created challenges managed through meticulous vineyard care, including precision leaf removal. The result? Concentrated white wines with freshness and elegance. Harvest took place between August 28 and September 20 under ideal conditions.
Vinification
The grapes were gently destemmed, cooled, and lightly pressed to preserve their natural aromas. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at 14–15°C. Select parcels underwent cold maceration for enhanced aromatics. The wine was aged on lees for three months, with regular stirring to build texture and complexity.
Tasting Notes
This vibrant Vinho Verde shows bright citrus aromas, nectarine, lime blossom, and hints of mango. The palate is crisp and refreshing, supported by a well-integrated acidity. Rich tropical fruit notes lead to a long, lingering finish. Perfect for lovers of Portuguese white wines with tropical fruit and mineral notes.
Quinta de Azevedo is a historic wine estate in the Minho region of Portugal, home to 34 hectares of estate-grown vineyards dedicated to producing elegant Portuguese white wines with a strong sense of place. Nestled near the Cávado River in Northern Portugal, this vineyard estate dates back to the 12th century, making it one of the most storied producers in the Vinho Verde wine region.
Since acquiring the property in 1982, the Guedes family has carefully restored Quinta de Azevedo, blending its centuries-old winemaking heritage with modern viticulture techniques. The vineyards have been restructured to move away from traditional pergola systems in favour of cordon-trained vines, which enhance grape ripeness, air circulation, and sun exposure, crucial elements for growing high-quality white wine grapes in Portugal.
Under the guidance of head winemaker Diogo Sepúlveda, Quinta de Azevedo specializes in crafting fresh, aromatic Vinho Verde white wines with precision and character. Grapes are hand-harvested at night to preserve freshness and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, maintaining the bright, natural aromatics of each indigenous grape variety.
• Loureiro brings vibrant tropical fruit and citrus aromas, complemented by a refreshing mineral edge.
• Alvarinho adds depth with stone fruit notes, structure, and complexity**, resulting in balanced, expressive white wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Minho region.
Starting with the 2022 and 2023 vintages, Quinta de Azevedo began crafting estate-bottled Vinho Verde wines exclusively from their own vineyards. This shift marks a new chapter in the estate’s journey, moving from partnerships with local growers to full control over fruit quality and sustainable vineyard practices. It is a clear reflection of the Guedes family's commitment to producing premium Vinho Verde wines from Portugal, rooted in authenticity, artisanry, and a deep respect for tradition.
