Discover the elegance and power of the Philippe le Hardi Mercurey Premier Cru 'Les Puillets' 2022, a fine French red wine from Burgundy’s prestigious Côte Chalonnaise region. Grown sustainably on 35-year-old vines, this Premier Cru Pinot Noir is a standout choice for wine lovers seeking a structured, fruit-forward Burgundy.
Sustainably Grown, Premier Cru Vineyard
This exceptional Pinot Noir is crafted from grapes grown on the southwest-facing slopes of the renowned 'Les Puillets' vineyard in Mercurey, Burgundy. Certified Terra Vitis and cultivated without pesticides, the vineyard features clay-rich soil with limestone and marl—ideal for creating wines with richness, depth, and complexity.
A Resilient 2022 Vintage from Burgundy
Despite extreme weather in 2022, including frost, heat waves, and drought, the old vines thrived, producing grapes with remarkable freshness and intensity. The resulting wine maintains elegance and balance, a true testament to both terroir and winemaking skill.
Traditional Vinification with Modern Precision
Grapes were cold-soaked for 7 days to enhance colour and flavour, followed by a 12–14 day temperature-controlled fermentation. Techniques like pigeage (punch downs) and délestage (rack and return) helped extract silky tannins and deep character. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which were new, adding subtle spice and structure.
Tasting Notes
A deep garnet red wine with aromatic notes of ripe raspberry and black cherry. On the palate, expect a rich profile of red fruit and soft spices, supported by refined tannins and a long, elegant finish. This Premier Cru Pinot Noir is perfect for fine dining or special occasions.
Discover the legacy and elegance of Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi wines, formerly known as Château de Santenay. This historic Burgundy estate was once the grand residence of Philip the Bold, the first Duke of Burgundy, who famously issued the 1395 edict banning Gamay in favour of Pinot Noir grapes in Côte d’Or, a turning point in Burgundy wine history.
Today, the Château is recognised for its stunning Burgundian glazed tile roof (tuile vernissée de Bourgogne), a hallmark of traditional Burgundy architecture. After years of neglect, the estate was revitalised in 2010 under the ownership of Crédit Agricole, which brought in a new winemaking team and invested in a state-of-the-art cuverie built in 2014.
Under the guidance of François des Moutis, Chef de Cave, the Domaine is now known for crafting elegant, terroir-driven wines with minimal oak influence and gentle extraction techniques. These thoughtful winemaking practices bring out the purest expressions of each vineyard parcel.
Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi cultivates over 106 hectares of vineyards in Burgundy, all managed sustainably and currently undergoing organic conversion.
• 72 hectares are located in Mercurey, one of the Côte Chalonnaise’s most celebrated villages.
• 18 hectares are spread across top Côte d’Or appellations, including Chassagne-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin.
