Discover the luxurious depth and heritage of Morris of Rutherglen Old Premium Rare Liqueur Muscat, a gold medal winner at the 2020 Decanter World Wine Awards. Handcrafted in the heart of Rutherglen, Victoria, this premium aged muscat wine is a true collector’s gem and the perfect after-dinner indulgence.
From Historic Rutherglen Vineyards
Sourced from 80 hectares of east-facing vineyards in North East Victoria, our Rutherglen fortified wine is grown on red loam soils over clay, enhancing both richness and flavour. Vines are hand-pruned using the traditional rod and spur method and nurtured by natural rainfall only, producing low yields and intensely concentrated fruit.
Traditional Winemaking – Aged to Perfection
Grapes are hand-selected at 15–16 Baume, fermented, then fortified with a high-strength neutral spirit to halt fermentation at peak flavour. This muscat is matured in seasoned oak casks, combining aged reserve wines with fresher parcels to create a perfectly balanced blend. Only the finest vintages make it into this rare release.
Tasting Notes
Dark olive brown with a green rim, this rare Rutherglen muscat dessert wine reveals a rich nose of raisin, toffee, and subtle oak. On the palate, expect intense layers of dried fruit, sweet spices, and Christmas pudding, with exceptional depth, length, and complexity. A true expression of Australia’s iconic fortified style.

• Wine collectors and gift givers

With a proud winemaking history spanning over 155 years, Morris Wines of Rutherglen has become synonymous with premium Australian Liqueur Muscat wines. As one of Australia’s oldest family-owned wineries, the Morris family has cultivated a lasting legacy, earning a reputation for producing some of the best fortified wines in Australia.
Founded in 1859 by George Francis Morris, the original vineyard began as a four-hectare estate near Rutherglen in North East Victoria, an area famed for its rich, red loam soils and historic connection to the gold rush. These unique soils, layered over red and yellow podzolic clay, contribute to the distinct character of the wines produced in the region.
By 1885, Morris Wines had expanded to over 80 hectares, making it the largest wine producer in the Southern Hemisphere at the time. However, like many, the vineyard faced devastation during the phylloxera outbreak of 1890. In a remarkable comeback, Charles Hugh Morris—George’s son, established a new vineyard in 1897, even selling his prized showjumping horse to fund the project. This noble horse now lives on as the Morris Wines logo, symbolising resilience and tradition.
Throughout the 20th century, Morris Wines was carefully stewarded through challenging times by successive generations: from Charles Tempest Morris during the Great Depression and wartime, to Charles Henry Morris, who took over as head winemaker in 1953. In 1993, David Morris—the fifth-generation winemaker, took the reins, continuing the family’s legacy of crafting world-class fortified and Muscat wines.
