Discover the elegance of Valpolicella Classico DOC wine from Veneto, Italy, crafted by the renowned Monte del Frà winery. The Tenuta Lena di Mezzo Valpolicella Classico 2023 is a refined Italian red wine that showcases freshness, balance, and classic regional character, perfect for both everyday enjoyment and curated wine lists.
Vineyards
The grapes for this Valpolicella Classico red wine are sourced exclusively from estate vineyards within the Valpolicella Classico DOC zone. The vineyards sit on hillside slopes between 250 and 450 metres above sea level, benefiting from excellent sun exposure. The volcanic soils, rich in clay, and limestone, contribute minerality, structure, and aromatic complexity to the wine.
Vinification
Careful destemming and gentle crushing preserve fruit purity. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, ensuring freshness and precision. After completing malolactic fermentation, the wine rests in steel tanks for several months before bottling, allowing its flavours to harmonise while maintaining a vibrant, fruit-forward profile.
Tasting Notes
This Valpolicella Classico 2023 displays a bright, deep ruby red colour. The nose is elegant and aromatic, with floral notes of lavender and violet, followed by red and blue fruit aromas. As the wine opens in the glass, subtle spice notes emerge. On the palate, expect layers of plum, cherry, liquorice, and black pepper, leading to a dry, well-balanced, and rounded finish with impressive length and harmony.
Food Pairing
A versatile Italian red wine, ideal with charcuterie and cold cuts, grilled cheeseburgers, tacos, stir-fried chicken, and roasted summer vegetables. It also pairs beautifully with mushroom dishes, pizza, schnitzel, and casual Mediterranean cuisine.
Discover Monte del Frà – A Family-Owned Sustainable Winery in Lake Garda, Italy. Monte del Frà, meaning “land of the monks,” traces its roots back to the late 15th century when a group of friars established a monastery on this fertile land in northern Italy. By the 16th century, 25 hectares had been leased for the cultivation of vineyards and fruit trees, a legacy you can still see documented today in Vienna’s historic library.
Today, Monte del Frà is a renowned family-owned Italian winery near Lake Garda, passionately run by the Bonomo family for over 60 years. Now in its third generation, Marica, Silvia, and Massimo Bonomo are dedicated to producing high-quality wines that reflect both tradition and terroir.
Nestled between the Venetian Pre-Alps and the shores of Lake Garda, Monte del Frà benefits from a unique microclimate. The nearby mountains shield the vineyards from harsh northern winds, while the lake moderates extreme seasonal temperatures, ideal conditions for growing premium grapes.
What truly sets Monte del Frà apart is its commitment to sustainable vineyard practices in Northern Italy. The estate spans rolling morainic hills formed by ancient glaciers, creating the perfect environment for cultivating indigenous grape varieties that define the character of each handcrafted wine.
Whether you are looking for artisan Italian wines from a sustainable winery or want to explore the taste of Lake Garda's family-run vineyards, Monte del Frà offers a legacy in every bottle.
