Experience the elegance of Tuscan winemaking with the Marchesi Antinori Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018. Crafted from hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes grown in the prestigious Chianti Classico region, this vintage is a true expression of Italian heritage and terroir.
Vintage Overview – 2018 Growing Season
The 2018 vintage in Chianti Classico was marked by a mild winter, early bud break, and a cooler, rainy spring. A warm, dry summer followed, with ideal September and October conditions that allowed the grapes to ripen slowly, achieving perfect sugar levels and phenolic maturity. Harvest took place between late September and early October, ensuring peak ripeness.
Vinification & Ageing
After gentle destemming and berry selection, fermentation occurred over 10 days, followed by 10–12 days of skin contact to extract deep colour and tannins. Aged primarily in Hungarian oak barrels, with a portion in French oak, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and several months of barrel aging. It was later bottled at the estate and allowed to further refine in the bottle.
Tasting Notes
This Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2018 opens with a deep ruby red colour. The nose is layered with ripe red fruit aromas, black cherries, sour cherries, and blueberries, complemented by apricot, aromatic herbs, and balsamic notes. Hints of dark chocolate, coffee, liquorice, and vanilla add depth. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, yet vibrant, with bright acidity and mineral complexity. A long, sweet finish makes this a wine with excellent ageing potential.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pairs beautifully with grilled meats, aged cheeses, Tuscan cuisine, or enjoyed on its own for a special occasion.
Discover Six Centuries of Tuscan Winemaking with the Antinori Family Wines
Experience the legacy of one of Italy’s most iconic wine producers, the Antinori family, whose winemaking heritage in Tuscany spans over 600 years and 26 generations. Since 1385, the Antinori family has crafted fine Italian wines that reflect both ancient tradition and a pioneering spirit of innovation.
Originally silk traders in 12th-century Florence, the Antinori’s transitioned to winemaking and quickly gained international acclaim. By the 16th century, Antinori wines were being exported to France, Flanders, Spain, and North Africa, establishing a global reputation for quality Italian wine exports.
A major milestone in their journey was the acquisition of the Tignanello Estate in 1900, which sparked a new era of innovation and growth. Today, Antinori is celebrated as one of the top Tuscan wine producers, with prestigious vineyards in Piedmont, Lombardy, Umbria, and Puglia.
The Antinori vineyards cover nearly 1,400 hectares of premium vineyard land in Tuscany and Umbria, producing world-renowned wines such as Tignanello, Solaia and Badia a Passignano.
As Marchese Piero Antinori states, “Ancient roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have never held back our spirit of innovation.”
Whether you're seeking premium red wines from Tuscany or iconic Italian white wines for your collection, the Antinori family continues to define excellence in Italian winemaking.
