Discover the elegance of the Mandrarossa Fiano 2023, a premium Sicilian white wine crafted from hillside vineyards in south-western Sicily. Grown at elevations between 150 and 350 meters above sea level, the Fiano grapes thrive in medium-textured, limestone-rich soils under optimal sun exposure. The vines are meticulously Guyot-trained, with a density of 4,000–4,500 plants per hectare, ensuring exceptional grape quality and concentrated flavour.
Vintage
The 2023 harvest season was marked by climatic extremes. Following the warmest autumn in three decades, spring introduced variable weather, including cool spells and rain. Despite a reduction in grape yield due to downy mildew and a July heatwave that peaked at 48°C, the grapes reached perfect ripeness by harvest. Though yields were down by 36% compared to 2022, the quality remained outstanding, thanks to careful vineyard management.
Vinification
To preserve aromatic complexity, the hand-harvested grapes were crushed and destemmed, then cooled to 5–8°C. They remained on the skins for 4–6 hours before being softly pressed. Fermentation occurred in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures (16–18°C) over 15–20 days. The wine was aged in stainless steel for four months to retain its vibrant freshness.
Tasting Notes
Mandrarossa Fiano 2023 is a bright yellow white wine with youthful hues. It bursts with fresh, aromatic notes of jasmine, grapefruit, basil, tomato leaf, and laurel. The palate is crisp and mineral-driven, with subtle herbal nuances of oregano and mint. The wine finishes with excellent length and complexity.
Crafted from the finest vineyards in the sun-drenched hills of southwestern Sicily. Produced by the renowned Cantine Settesoli cooperative, these premium wines reflect the unique terroir of the region near Selinunte, home to the ancient ruins of a 2,600-year-old Greek city.
With over 6,000 hectares of vineyards and 32 grape varieties cultivated by 2,000 dedicated growers, Mandrarossa represents the best of sustainable Sicilian winemaking. The winery, established in 1999 and revitalized with its own facility in 2021, is powered by one of the largest solar energy installations in Italy’s wine industry, making it a leading producer of eco-friendly wines from Italy.
Mandrarossa has taken a bold step in quality and authenticity by focusing on single-vineyard wines from Sicily’s coastal hills, guided by cutting-edge soil mapping techniques. International winemaking consultant Alberto Antonini, along with terroir expert Pedro Parra and head winemaker Mimmo De Gregorio, have carefully selected 500 hectares from 160 growers, identifying limestone-rich soils and coastal microclimates as ideal for producing high-quality Sicilian wines.
