Klein Constantia Cap Classique Blanc des Blancs 2020 is a refined South African sparkling wine, expertly crafted from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in a single historic vineyard block on the cool lower slopes of the Klein Constantia estate.
Hand-harvested in early season batches, this premium Méthode Cap Classique vintage captures vibrant freshness and layered complexity, thanks to meticulous grape selection and winemaking precision. This is the first-ever zero dosage vintage from Klein Constantia, offering a pure, dry expression of Chardonnay.
Vinification & Ageing
The grapes were whole-bunch pressed using only the delicate free run juice. Fermentation occurred in both stainless-steel tanks and oak barrels, followed by 7 months of maturation. After blending and bottling, the wine underwent traditional secondary fermentation and was aged on the lees for an additional 38 months before disgorgement, enhancing its depth and character.
Tasting Notes
Light and bright in the glass, this sparkling wine delivers fresh aromas of green apple, brioche, and stone fruit. The palate is elegant yet powerful, driven by a fine, persistent mousse. Rich, ripe flavours are balanced by zesty acidity and a textured mouthfeel, finishing with a long, crisp, and refreshing finish.
Experience the legacy of Klein Constantia, one of the world’s most beautiful and historic wine estates, nestled in the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg Mountains near Cape Town, South Africa. Established in 1685 by Governor Simon Van der Stel, this iconic estate is the birthplace of the legendary Vin de Constance, a natural dessert wine once adored by European royalty and aristocracy throughout the 18th century.
Klein Constantia is located in the heart of the Constantia wine region, just between False Bay and Hout Bay. With its cool maritime climate, granite-rich soils, and proximity to the ocean, the estate produces elegant, terroir-driven wines with exceptional balance and minerality.
The vineyard's elevated position, ranging from 70 to 343 meters above sea level and consistent sea breeze create ideal conditions for cultivating Muscat de Frontignan, the grape behind the globally celebrated Vin de Constance. These natural influences enhance the concentration, complexity, and flavour of every grape.
Klein Constantia is not only known for its award-winning wines but also its deep commitment to sustainable viticulture. As a WWF Conservation Champion since 2011, the estate plays a vital role in preserving the Cape Floristic Region, a global biodiversity hotspot home to over 14,000 plant and animal species. Their eco-friendly farming methods balance agricultural excellence with environmental responsibility.
