Vineyard Origins
The 2021 Entity Shiraz is sourced from select vineyards in the renowned Barossa Valley (75%) and Eden Valley (25%) regions, including Krondorf, Ebenezer, Moppa, and Tanunda. These vineyard sites, known for their ancient vines and unique terroir, contribute to the wine’s complexity and finesse.
Exceptional 2021 Vintage
The Barossa 2021 growing season delivered near-perfect conditions, warm, dry weather with timely rains and an even, slow ripening period. The result is a vintage marked by vibrant fruit intensity, fine tannins, and excellent ageing potential.
Winemaking Process
Fermented in small stainless-steel fermenters with gentle extraction methods, the wine was matured for 15 months in 25% new fine-grain French oak hogsheads and seasoned French oak puncheons. This careful vinification preserves purity of fruit while adding subtle oak complexity.
Tasting Notes:
• Nose: Aromas of ripe dark berries, juicy plum, liquorice, and a floral lift.
• Palate: Rich and full-bodied with layers of black and blue fruits, dark chocolate, and spice. The finish is long, savoury, and supported by fine-grained tannins.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfectly pairs with grilled lamb, charred vegetables, aged cheddar, or a rich beef ragu. Ideal for cellaring or enjoying now with decanting.
John Duval Wines is a premium, family-owned winery in the heart of the Barossa Valley, producing small-batch Australian red wines from some of the region’s oldest vineyards. Founded in 2003 by world-renowned winemaker John Duval, this boutique label reflects over 40 years of winemaking expertise and six generations of South Australian grape-growing heritage.
John Duval, best known as the former Chief Winemaker at Penfolds and custodian of the iconic Grange Shiraz, has created his own legacy by crafting wines that honour the old-vine Barossa terroir. With a focus on low-yield, dry-grown Shiraz, Grenache, and Mourvèdre sourced from vines aged 50 to over 100 years, each bottle expresses purity, balance, and a strong sense of place.
Today, John is joined by his son, Tim Duval, continuing the family tradition of winemaking. Together, they work closely with trusted Barossa growers, applying minimal-intervention techniques to produce elegant, modern expressions of classic Barossa varieties.
