Crafted in Marlborough’s Finest Vineyards
Sourced from premium vineyard sites across the Southern Valleys and Wairau Plains in Marlborough, New Zealand, the Greywacke Wild Sauvignon Blanc 2022 is a reflection of careful terroir selection. Grown in diverse soil types, from alluvial greywacke river stones in Rapaura and Renwick to the clay-loams of the Southern Valleys, this wine expresses the complexity and richness of its origin. Most of the vineyards used the Scott Henry trellising system for optimal sun exposure and grape development.
A Vintage Marked by Resilience and Precision
2022 began with a warm, wet spring and excellent flowering, leading to healthy crop yields. Though Cyclone Dovi brought heavy rains in February, cool southerly breezes kept disease pressures low. The Greywacke team executed a swift and precise harvest to avoid further rainfall, ensuring optimal fruit condition at the winery.
Wild Fermentation & French Oak Aging
Produced using wild fermentation with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels (some new), this small-batch Sauvignon Blanc underwent a long, slow fermentation over six months. Lees stirring and partial malolactic fermentation enhanced its rich texture. After nearly a year of maturation on fine lees, it was bottled in September 2023.
Tasting Notes: A Complex and Textured Sauvignon Blanc
Expect a bright and aromatic bouquet of lychee, mango, tarragon, thyme, and white blossoms. The palate is rich yet refined, with notes of ripe gooseberry, tangerine, and sandalwood, underpinned by vibrant acidity and a subtle saline edge. The finish is long, layered, and beautifully textured, ideal for those who love complex organic Sauvignon Blanc with an Old World twist.
