Experience one of the finest expressions of Bordeaux with the Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 2015, a Grand Cru Classé red wine from Pessac-Léognan. Sourced from a rare, 55-hectare vineyard nestled in gravel-rich soils with a clay subsoil, this vintage captures the essence of terroir-driven excellence.
Exceptional Vintage Conditions
The 2015 growing season delivered outstanding quality. Dry spring weather allowed for uniform flowering in late May and early June, setting the stage for a promising vintage. Though the summer was marked by drought and water stress, timely August storms revived the vines and ensured even ripening. The result? Small, thick-skinned grapes with concentrated flavours, perfect for crafting structured, balanced wines with aging potential.
Traditional, Meticulous Winemaking
Each grape was hand-harvested and double-sorted, first in the vineyard, then in the cellar. Fermentation took place in a mix of stainless-steel tanks, tulip-shaped concrete vats, and oak vats, allowing each plot to express its unique character. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels (one-third new) for 16–18 months, with regular lees stirring in the first 4 months to enhance mouthfeel and complexity.
“Deep garnet in colour, the 2015 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge needs a little coaxing to reveal notes of baked black cherries, redcurrant jelly, and plum preserves with suggestions of unsmoked cigars, tapenade, and rosehip tea. The medium-bodied palate has intense red and black berry preserves layers with a firm structure of grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and perfumed. Drink 2024-2049.” 96pts Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent, November 2022
