Crafted from ancient, dry-grown Shiraz vines, many over 100 years old, the Dandelion Vineyards Lionheart of the Barossa Shiraz 2022 is a tribute to the resilience and character of Australia’s most iconic wine region.
Grown at an elevation of 221 metres in the world-renowned Barossa Valley, these old vines thrive in some of the oldest soils on Earth, producing grapes with intense flavour, structure, and complexity.
2022 Vintage Highlights
A welcomed wet winter replenished water reserves after years of drought. The mild summer brought perfect ripening conditions, preserving natural acidity and delivering a vibrant, balanced Shiraz vintage.
Winemaking Process
• Hand-harvested in late March
• Natural fermentation in open-top fermenters for 8 days
• Twice-daily hand plunging for optimal extraction
• Basket-pressed into French oak barriques (new and seasoned)
• Aged for 18 months in oak for added complexity.
Tasting Notes
This deep purple Shiraz opens with lifted aromas of rosemary, dark chocolate, ripe plums, and white pepper, seamlessly layered with subtle oak spice. The palate is rich and structured, offering generous fruit, fresh acidity, and silky tannins that promise great ageing potential.
Discover Award-Winning Australian Wines from Dandelion Vineyards
Dandelion Vineyards is a boutique Australian winery led by acclaimed winemaker Elena Brooks and her husband Zar Brooks. Their handcrafted wines reflect the character of some of South Australia's most iconic wine regions, including the Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, and Fleurieu Peninsula.
Born and raised in Bulgaria, Elena Brooks grew up surrounded by winemaking. At just 12 years old, she began interpreting wine tastings for international winemakers visiting her mother's winery. By the age of 16, she had crafted her first wine. Her global winemaking journey eventually led her to McLaren Vale, where she co-founded Dandelion Vineyards with a focus on minimal intervention and expressive vineyard-driven wines.
The wines of Dandelion Vineyards are made from old-vine fruit and showcase a pure sense of place. Wine critic Nick Stock described Elena's approach as "remarkably simple," capturing the essence of what he calls the "blessed curve", a sweep of premium wine country stretching from the Barossa Valley to the Adelaide Hills and down into McLaren Vale.
