Exceptional Vintage & Traditional Vinification
The 2016 growing season in the Douro Valley was defined by an unusually wet spring, with over 249mm of rainfall at Quinta da Roêda, three times the decade’s average. This replenished groundwater levels after a dry 2015, setting the stage for an ideal maturation cycle.
Despite experiencing 13 days of extreme heat (40°C+), the vines thrived thanks to deep water reserves. Slow, even grape ripening led to a late harvest beginning on September 17th, under ideal conditions. Cool nighttime temperatures during fermentation allowed for gentle extraction, enhancing the wine's aromatic finesse and structural elegance.
