Experience one of Bordeaux’s most iconic wines with the Château Pape Clément 2020, a Grand Cru Classé red wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Awarded an impressive 98 points by Antonio Galloni (Vinous, Feb 2023), this vintage is a collector’s dream and a true showcase of depth, elegance, and complexity.
Exceptional Terroir & Sustainable Viticulture
Crafted from a 61-hectare vineyard nestled in the prestigious Pessac-Léognan region, this wine benefits from clayey gravel soils of Pyrenean origin, ideal for cultivating structured, age-worthy reds. The 28-year-old vines are meticulously managed on a micro-plot basis, and the estate is proudly certified High Environmental Value Level 3, SME, and Bee-Friendly – ensuring sustainable and eco-conscious viticulture.
Traditional Winemaking & Aging
Harvested by hand and sorted twice for quality, the berries undergo gentle vinification with gravity-fed wooden vats, cold maceration, and manual punch-downs to enhance depth and complexity. The wine is aged for 18 months in 90% French oak barrels (2/3 new) and 10% in vats, with malolactic fermentation in barrel, producing a rich, harmonious structure.
Tasting Notes
“The 2020 Pape Clément is outrageously beautiful. Dark, virile, and imposing, the 2020 is a rare vintage of Pape Clément that is vertical and statuesque in feel. Dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice and cloves infuse the palate with tremendous depth. In a word: magnificent. Drink 2030-2050.”
