Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep garnet-purple hue, with a youthful vibrancy.
Aromas: An enticing bouquet of black and red cherries, juicy plums, and fresh mulberries, layered with violet, liquorice, crushed flowers, and subtle forest floor notes. Nuanced spice elements emerge with Sichuan pepper, black pepper, and cardamom, while a mineral-driven core hints at chalk, wet stone, limestone, and oyster shell.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with a vibrant core of ripe dark fruit and lively acidity. The tannins are fine-grained and chalky, lending both structure and a tactile mineral grip. The wine finishes long and elegant, echoing dark berries, peppery spice, and limestone minerality.
Cellaring Potential
While already showing beautifully with decanting, Château Montlandrie 2020 will reward cellaring through 2025 to 2035, with potential to age gracefully into the late 2030s.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pair with roast duck, rack of lamb, wild mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses to bring out the wine’s complex structure and aromatic spice.
Château Montlandrie Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux is a standout expression from the late, legendary Bordeaux winemaker Denis Durantou, renowned globally for his work at Château l’Église Clinet in Pomerol. Recognised for his extraordinary attention to detail in both vineyard and cellar, Durantou’s legacy continues to shape the future of right bank Bordeaux wines.
Located in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, a region that shares a similar terroir to Saint-Émilion, Château Montlandrie was a personal project for Durantou. This 12-hectare vineyard benefits from south-facing slopes, limestone and clay soils, and an ideal microclimate, a combination that mirrors the prestigious vineyards of nearby St-Émilion.
Durantou once referred to Montlandrie as “the second-best terroir I have after l’Église Clinet itself,” a powerful testament to the vineyard’s potential. Crafted with the same precision and passion as his top estates, Château Montlandrie delivers exceptional value Bordeaux red wine with deep character, elegance, and structure.
Perfect for collectors and wine enthusiasts seeking premium Bordeaux red wines from small producers, Château Montlandrie showcases the rich legacy of one of Bordeaux’s most revered winemakers.
