Discover the elegance of Château Montlandrie 2019, a beautifully crafted Bordeaux red wine from the prestigious Durantou family estate. Located on the elevated clay-limestone plateau of Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, this 12-hectare vineyard produces a refined Merlot-led blend that rivals many Right Bank wines.
With Merlot vines averaging 25 years and newer Cabernet Sauvignon plantings added in 2009, the blend delivers depth, structure, and elegance.
Vineyard & Terroir
The estate lies on clay-limestone soils, promoting natural freshness and mineral complexity. Sustainable vineyard practices ensure high-quality fruit that fully expresses the terroir of Castillon.
Vinification
Fermented in small stainless-steel vats (24–82 hl), followed by malolactic fermentation. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (30–40% new), enhancing structure and aromatic complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Deep garnet-purple with intense ruby highlights.
Aromas: Blackberries, cherries, plums, violets, wild herbs, cedar, and subtle spice.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with layered dark fruit, fine-grain tannins, lively acidity, and a mineral-driven finish.
Finish: Long and lingering, with notes of graphite and black fruit, built for ageing up to 20 years.
Château Montlandrie Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux is a standout expression from the late, legendary Bordeaux winemaker Denis Durantou, renowned globally for his work at Château l’Église Clinet in Pomerol. Recognised for his extraordinary attention to detail in both vineyard and cellar, Durantou’s legacy continues to shape the future of right bank Bordeaux wines.
Located in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, a region that shares a similar terroir to Saint-Émilion, Château Montlandrie was a personal project for Durantou. This 12-hectare vineyard benefits from south-facing slopes, limestone and clay soils, and an ideal microclimate, a combination that mirrors the prestigious vineyards of nearby St-Émilion.
Durantou once referred to Montlandrie as “the second-best terroir I have after l’Église Clinet itself,” a powerful testament to the vineyard’s potential. Crafted with the same precision and passion as his top estates, Château Montlandrie delivers exceptional value Bordeaux red wine with deep character, elegance, and structure.
Perfect for collectors and wine enthusiasts seeking premium Bordeaux red wines from small producers, Château Montlandrie showcases the rich legacy of one of Bordeaux’s most revered winemakers.
