Discover the Château Macquin 2021, a standout Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion red wine crafted with precision and care in one of Bordeaux’s most exclusive appellations. Situated just three kilometres from the iconic village of Saint-Émilion, Château Macquin sits at 89 metres above sea level, one of the highest points on the Right Bank, giving this wine its signature freshness, structure, and concentration.
Sustainably Grown Grapes
Denis and Christine, the passionate caretakers of this estate, farm their 60-year-old Merlot-dominant vines without the use of herbicides or harmful chemicals. Certified as a High Environmental Value (HVE) vineyard, Château Macquin embraces a unique holistic approach, using musical vibrations known as “proteodies” to naturally strengthen vine health.
2021 Vintage: A Testament to Resilience
Despite a challenging growing season marked by spring frosts and summer mildew, careful vineyard management and a hot, dry August led to exceptional fruit quality. The result? A complex and aromatic vintage that reflects both terroir and tenacity.
Winemaking & Ageing
Fermented in stainless steel tanks, some lined with French oak staves, for precision and balance, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged for 12 months. One-third matures in 25% new French oak barrels, while the remainder stays in stainless steel to preserve purity and fruit expression.

Since 1885, Château Macquin premium Bordeaux wines have been crafted with care and tradition in the prestigious Saint-Émilion wine region of France. Founded by François-Albert Macquin, renowned as the first winemaker to replant vines in Saint-Émilion after the devastating phylloxera outbreak, Château Macquin has a rich history rooted in innovation and resilience.
Today, the legacy continues with third-generation winemakers Denis Macquin and his wife Christine Corre-Macquin. Together, they manage 27 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards across Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, producing elegant and expressive red wines that reflect their deep respect for the land and tradition.
Located just three kilometres north of Saint-Émilion, Château Macquin is nestled in the village of Saint-Georges, the smallest appellation in Bordeaux with only 180 hectares under vine. This elevated site, 89 meters above sea level, provides optimal sun exposure and natural drainage. The south-facing vineyards, with vines up to 60 years old, are planted on a mix of clay and limestone soils, contributing to the wines’ signature freshness, complexity, and mineral-driven character.

At Château Macquin, sustainability is more than a practice, it is a philosophy. The estate is proudly committed to chemical-free viticulture, avoiding herbicides and pesticides in favour of natural vineyard health. Instead, Denis and Christine use a pioneering technique known as proteody vine therapy, which uses musical vibrations to naturally strengthen the vines and protect against disease.
