Discover the elegance and depth of Château Larose Perganson 2019, a refined Haut-Médoc red wine crafted from sustainably managed vineyards and one of the Médoc’s oldest gravel terroirs. This vintage offers exceptional concentration, structure, and purity—ideal for collectors and lovers of classic Left Bank Bordeaux.
Vineyards
Château Larose Perganson cultivates 35 hectares of high-density vineyards (10,000 vines/ha), ensuring naturally low yields and remarkable fruit intensity. The vines, averaging 35 years old, grow on the historic Pyrenean gravel layer, encouraging deep root systems and resulting in grapes with exceptional complexity.
Planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, the estate produces wines celebrated for balance, concentration, and ageing potential.
Vintage
The 2019 Bordeaux vintage is known as a true winemaker’s vintage, marked by variable weather from budburst to harvest. A mild winter and early April budbreak were followed by heavy June rains, then a prolonged drought through mid-October. Lower yields (around 10% down) meant greater concentration, rewarding estates that maintained precision in the vineyard and meticulous sorting at harvest.
Vinification
Grapes underwent two rigorous sorting stages, ensuring only the highest-quality fruit made it into the final cuvée. After gentle pressing, the must experienced a seven-day cold soak to enhance colour and tannin extraction. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks (22–24°C).
Using the délestage (rack-and-return) method, the winemakers achieved refined tannins and a softer, fruit-forward profile. The wine matured for 14 months in French oak barriques, 50% of which were new, enhancing texture and aromatic depth.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Château Larose Perganson 2019 shows a deep ruby colour with vibrant aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, spice, and graphite. The palate is full-bodied and structured, offering silky ripe tannins and a long, elegant finish. A superb choice for both immediate enjoyment and cellaring.
Discover Château Larose Perganson, a historic Left Bank Bordeaux red wine estate located beside the legendary vineyards of Château Latour in Saint-Laurent-Médoc, on the border of Pauillac and Saint-Julien. Crafted by renowned winemaker Franck Bijon, this exceptional Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Médoc wine offers the structure and finesse to rival many classified growths.
In the decade leading up to the famous 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Château Larose Perganson ranked at the same price levels as top growth estates. However, a period of disrepair between 1845 and 1855 caused it to be overlooked in the classification—making it today one of Bordeaux’s finest under-the-radar Cabernet blends.
Revived in 1986 by the owners of Château Larose Trintaudon, the estate has been meticulously restored to its former prestige. Château Larose Perganson is now a leader in sustainable Bordeaux viticulture: certified by the Vignoble Responsable programme in 1999 and named the first European vineyard rated “exemplary” for sustainable development in 2010. This dedication makes it an ideal choice for wine lovers seeking environmentally responsible French red wine.
The estate spans 35 hectares of gravel soils, planted at high density (10,000 vines per hectare) and averaging 35 years of age. These naturally low-yielding vines produce clusters with exceptional concentration, resulting in a rich, elegant Médoc wine with deep flavour intensity and long-lasting complexity.
Perfect for collectors or anyone searching for a premium Médoc Cabernet Sauvignon–Merlot blend, Château Larose Perganson represents outstanding value from one of Bordeaux’s most respected, sustainably managed estates.
