Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard Malbec 2019, Premium Altamira Uco Valley Wine
Discover the exquisite Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard Malbec 2019, a premium single-vineyard wine from the renowned Altamira region in La Consulta, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina. This rare, handcrafted Malbec from the Nicasia Vineyard represents the only planting of Catena’s special Malbec cuttings in this historic terroir, once favoured by Nicolás Catena’s father.
Crafted with meticulous care, the wine undergoes a 100% barrel fermentation in new French oak barrels, combining 10% whole cluster and 90% whole berry fruit. Fermented at controlled low temperatures with wild yeasts, this process ensures vibrant, intense aromas and soft, elegant tannins. After 18 days of fermentation, the wine is aged for 20 months in French oak barrels and an additional 24 months in bottle, creating a complex and harmonious profile.
The Nicasia Vineyard, situated at 3,593 feet (1,095 metres) above sea level, boasts shallow loamy topsoil with gravelly subsoil for ideal drainage—perfect for growing rich, flavourful Malbec grapes. This premium 2019 vintage offers 13.7% alcohol, a balanced pH of 3.6, and a total acidity of 6.7 grams per litre, making it a standout choice for Malbec enthusiasts and collectors.
Perfect for wine lovers searching for rare Argentine Malbec, boutique single-vineyard wines, and expertly aged French oak Malbec from Mendoza.
A Legacy of Excellence from Mendoza, Argentina
Founded in 1902 by Italian immigrant Nicola Catena, the Catena Zapata winery has remained family-owned for over four generations. As one of the few major Argentine wine producers still in Argentine hands, the Catena family has played a key role in shaping the future of winemaking in South America.
In the 1980s, Dr. Nicolás Catena Zapata transformed the industry by pioneering high-altitude vineyards in the Andes foothills of Mendoza. His groundbreaking work, especially with Malbec, put Argentine wines on the global map. By the mid-1990s, his daughter, Dr. Laura Catena, joined the mission, continuing the family’s tradition of innovation and excellence.
Today, Catena Zapata holds more 100-point wine ratings than any other winery in South America and is globally recognised for quality and sustainability. Certified by Bodegas de Argentina, the winery also leads in research on terroir, soil, and historic grape clones.
