Discover the elegance of Catena Alta Malbec 2018, a premium Argentinian red wine crafted from carefully selected vineyard lots in Mendoza’s most celebrated high-altitude terroirs: Lot 18 of Angélica, Lot 4 of La Pirámide, Lot 1 of Nicasia, Lot 6 of Angélica Sur, and Lot 9 of Adrianna Vineyard.
Each vineyard parcel is hand-harvested at peak ripeness to preserve natural acidity and achieve perfect balance. Whole berries are gently fermented using native yeasts in small bins and French oak barrels (225–500L), followed by 28–30 days of extended maceration and cold soak fermentation for enhanced depth and structure.
The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and battonage in-barrel, aged for 18 months in French oak, creating a well-integrated profile with minimal SO₂.
Tasting Notes:
This full-bodied Malbec delivers a silky texture and rich mouthfeel, bursting with flavours of blackcurrant, cassis, dark chocolate, vanilla, and a hint of black pepper spice.
Perfect for:
Pairing with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or enjoying on its own as a sophisticated evening pour.
A Legacy of Excellence from Mendoza, Argentina
Founded in 1902 by Italian immigrant Nicola Catena, the Catena Zapata winery has remained family-owned for over four generations. As one of the few major Argentine wine producers still in Argentine hands, the Catena family has played a key role in shaping the future of winemaking in South America.
In the 1980s, Dr. Nicolás Catena Zapata transformed the industry by pioneering high-altitude vineyards in the Andes foothills of Mendoza. His groundbreaking work, especially with Malbec, put Argentine wines on the global map. By the mid-1990s, his daughter, Dr. Laura Catena, joined the mission, continuing the family’s tradition of innovation and excellence.
Today, Catena Zapata holds more 100-point wine ratings than any other winery in South America and is globally recognised for quality and sustainability. Certified by Bodegas de Argentina, the winery also leads in research on terroir, soil, and historic grape clones.
