Discover the rich heritage and exceptional quality of Glaetzer Bishop 2021, crafted from rare old vine fruit aged between 35 to 120 years, sourced exclusively from the renowned Ebenezer sub-district in the northern Barossa Valley. This limited-edition Barossa Valley old vine red wine offers an exquisite balance of depth and elegance, making it a prized collectible for lovers of premium Australian wines.
Vineyard & Vintage
Handpicked from low-yielding vines at just 3 tonnes per hectare, the 2021 vintage benefited from optimal vintage conditions. Spring’s generous rainfall and cooler summer temperatures ensured healthy vine growth, while a dry late summer fostered exceptional ripeness. This resulted in a fuller-bodied wine with vibrant phenolic concentration, standing out from previous vintages.
Vinification & Ageing
Glaetzer Bishop 2021 undergoes fermentation in small 1 and 2 tonne open fermenters with extended maceration, encouraging soft tannin development for early drinkability. The wine is carefully matured for 16 months in a blend of 40% new French and American oak barrels and 60% seasoned hogsheads, imparting complexity and smooth texture.
Tasting Notes
This vintage presents a vibrant dark red colour with purple hues. The bouquet opens with enticing aromas of black cherry and dried spices. On the palate, enjoy layered flavours of ripe black cherry, raspberry, olive, and black pepper, all balanced by fine tannins. The wine is full-bodied, smooth, and finishes persistently, perfect for pairing with hearty grilled meats, rich pasta dishes, or aged cheeses.

Glaetzer Wines is a boutique, family-owned winery in Australia’s Barossa Valley, renowned for producing premium old vine Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Established in 1995, the winery continues a winemaking legacy that dates back to the late 1800s, when the Glaetzer family emigrated from Germany and became some of the first viticulturalists in both the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley.
Today, Glaetzer Wines is led by award-winning winemaker Ben Glaetzer, whose philosophy blends traditional techniques with modern precision. All fruit is hand-selected from the Ebenezer sub-region in the northern Barossa, a site famous for its dry-grown, non-grafted bush vines aged between 80 and 110 years. These ancient vines produce low yields of intensely flavoured grapes, forming the backbone of Glaetzer’s bold and expressive wines.
In the cellar, Ben practices minimal intervention winemaking, allowing the unique terroir of Barossa to shine through. Every wine is crafted in small batches to maintain quality and site expression.
Glaetzer's flagship wines, including the iconic Amon-Ra Shiraz and the Anaperenna Shiraz Cabernet blend, have gained global recognition for their depth, balance, and unmistakable Barossa character. Whether you are a collector or a connoisseur, Glaetzer Wines offers some of the best premium red wines from Australia.
