Antinori Tignanello 2022
Tignanello 2022 is a masterfully crafted Super Tuscan red wine from the renowned Marchesi Antinori estate in Tuscany. This limited-release vintage is made primarily from Sangiovese, with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and is aged in French and Hungarian oak barrels to enhance its depth and complexity. Known for its groundbreaking role in Italian winemaking, Tignanello remains a benchmark for luxury Tuscan wines.
Vintage Summary:
The 2022 growing season in Chianti Classico was marked by warm, dry conditions throughout spring and summer, especially in June and July. Despite minimal rainfall, the Tignanello vineyard showed remarkable resilience. August brought beneficial rain and cooler nights, allowing for optimal grape ripening. Harvesting began mid-September for Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon in early October. The result: a vintage with balanced structure, concentrated flavour, and exceptional fruit quality.
Winemaking & Aging:
• Fermentation in conical tanks with skin maceration to extract rich colour, aroma, and fine tannins.
• Malolactic fermentation in oak barrels for added aromatic complexity.
• Aging: 13+ months in French and Hungarian oak (predominantly new)
• Final blending and an additional 12 months of bottle aging before release
This meticulous process enhances Tignanello’s hallmark elegance, structure, and age-worthiness.
Tasting Notes:
Tignanello 2022 pours a deep ruby red with violet reflections. The nose opens with aromas of ripe cherries, black cherries, and pomegranate, layered with violets, vanilla, and subtle balsamic notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, vibrant, and refined, with polished tannins and a long, lingering finish echoing its aromatic complexity.
Discover Six Centuries of Tuscan Winemaking with the Antinori Family Wines
Experience the legacy of one of Italy’s most iconic wine producers, the Antinori family, whose winemaking heritage in Tuscany spans over 600 years and 26 generations. Since 1385, the Antinori family has crafted fine Italian wines that reflect both ancient tradition and a pioneering spirit of innovation.
Originally silk traders in 12th-century Florence, the Antinori’s transitioned to winemaking and quickly gained international acclaim. By the 16th century, Antinori wines were being exported to France, Flanders, Spain, and North Africa, establishing a global reputation for quality Italian wine exports.
A major milestone in their journey was the acquisition of the Tignanello Estate in 1900, which sparked a new era of innovation and growth. Today, Antinori is celebrated as one of the top Tuscan wine producers, with prestigious vineyards in Piedmont, Lombardy, Umbria, and Puglia.
The Antinori vineyards cover nearly 1,400 hectares of premium vineyard land in Tuscany and Umbria, producing world-renowned wines such as Tignanello, Solaia and Badia a Passignano.
As Marchese Piero Antinori states, “Ancient roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have never held back our spirit of innovation.”
