Alpha Zeta “A” Amarone della Valpolicella 2022 is a premium Italian red wine produced in the heart of Veneto, crafted from carefully selected grapes grown in the Valpantena Valley, just outside Verona. This Amarone expresses both power and elegance, shaped by its unique terroir and traditional winemaking methods.
Vineyards & Terroir
The vineyards are located at 250–300 metres above sea level on the rolling hills of the Valpantena Valley in Valpolicella, with south to south-east facing slopes. Cooling breezes from the foothills of the Dolomites moderate the warm climate, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while preserving freshness, aromatic intensity, and natural acidity.
The chalky, nutrient-poor soils place the vines under natural stress, resulting in low yields and high-quality fruit. Vines average 20–30 years of age and are trained using both the traditional Pergola Veronese and Guyot systems, contributing to the wine’s complexity and structure.
Vintage 2022
The 2022 Valpolicella vintage was warm and dry, producing exceptionally healthy grapes with no significant disease pressure. These favourable conditions allowed for optimal ripeness and concentration, resulting in grapes of outstanding quality for Amarone production.
Vinification & Ageing
The grapes were hand harvested in mid-September and dried using the traditional appassimento method in specially ventilated rooms until the end of January, losing approximately 40% of their original weight. This drying process concentrates flavour, sugar, and structure.
Fermentation took place at controlled temperatures of 18–22°C with daily pump-overs and a 20-day maceration period. The wine was then aged for 18 months in French oak barriques, followed by refinement in concrete tanks prior to bottling.
Tasting Notes
This Amarone della Valpolicella displays a deep, intense bouquet of dried cherries, ripe plums, spiced autumn fruit compote, and dark chocolate. The palate is powerful yet balanced, with silky ripe tannins, concentrated savoury cherry flavours and subtle spice. A gentle note of woodsmoke lingers on the long, structured finish.
