Allegrini Palazzo della Torre Veronese IGT 2022 is a signature Venetian red wine crafted from the historic vineyards surrounding the Allegrini family’s iconic Palazzo della Torre estate. Grown across 26 hectares of east-facing, terraced vineyards at 450–520 metres above sea level, these vines thrive in marly limestone soils that naturally enhance sugar concentration and maintain refreshing acidity. The vineyards, built on traditional dry-stone terraces known as marogne, offer a uniquely expressive terroir that defines this celebrated Veronese wine.
Vintage
The 2022 vintage presented a challenging but ultimately rewarding growing season. Early-year drought accelerated vine development and required careful irrigation to protect fruit quality. August brought vital rainfall and cooler nights, helping the grapes reach optimal balance and ripeness. The result is a beautifully structured wine with purity, intensity, and depth.
Vinification
Allegrini employs a modern interpretation of the classic ripasso method. Part of the harvest is dried in the state-of-the-art Terre di Fumane drying facility to intensify flavour, while the remaining grapes are vinified immediately. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel before ageing in second-use oak barriques. After blending and seven months of bottle ageing, the wine emerges with refined structure and unmatched elegance.
Tasting Notes
Expect an expressive and sophisticated profile, bursting with fragrant red berries, aromatic herbs, warming spices, and subtle vanilla. The palate is rich yet vibrant, supported by polished tannins and a long, harmonious finish. A versatile Italian red wine perfect for pairing with roasted meats, pasta dishes, mushrooms, or aged cheeses.
Since the 1960s, Giovanni Allegrini has been pioneering site-specific Valpolicella wine production by bottling wines from his family’s vineyards. Rooted in centuries of grape-growing tradition, the Allegrini estate cultivates over 120 hectares of vines in the heart of Valpolicella Classico wine region, including the renowned La Grola vineyard, famously planted with predominantly Corvina grapes, the hallmark of authentic Valpolicella wines.
Allegrini’s dedication to crafting high-quality Valpolicella Classico wines reflects a deep respect for the region’s diverse soils, unique microclimates, and historic terroirs. After Giovanni’s passing in 1983, his children Walter, Marilisa, and Franco took the helm, expanding upon his vision by focusing on the potential of Corvina grapes in producing some of the finest Italian red wines during a time when international grape varieties dominated the market.
A major innovation came from Franco Allegrini, who perfected the traditional appassimento winemaking process at the family’s Terre di Fumane drying facility, revolutionising the drying of grapes for premium Amarone and Valpolicella wines. This method enhances the rich, concentrated flavours that have made Allegrini a global leader in Italian Amarone and Valpolicella wines.
In 2023, the new generation, including Francesco, Giovanni, Matteo, and Silvia Allegrini, proudly continues the family legacy with a focus on sustainable viticulture and innovative winemaking techniques, ensuring every bottle represents the authentic spirit and exceptional quality of Valpolicella’s finest vineyards.
